depth-integrated velocity measurement

Equipment:

dipping rod, look-up table, calculator

Advantages:

  • no batteries, no electronics - completely resisitent to nuclear elecromagnetic pulses

Disadvantages:

  • insensitive to low velocities (this model: < 10 cm/s)
  • restricted immersion depth 8this model: 60 cm)

What to watch out for:

  • weeds
  • collectors of ancient hydrometric devices
