Parameter to be measured:

discharge

Method:

estimation via stage and surface velocity, measured by microwave (Doppler)

Equipment:

vertical and slant-looking sensor in common housing

Advantages:

  • non-invasive, non-contact, not endangered by debris
  • more than just stage information; surface velocity can improve discharge estimation

Disadvantages:

  • needs at least 0.3 m/s for velocity measurements

What to watch out for:

  • in very low flows, beam may cover non-moving riverbed, corruptiing the measurement
  • check RQ-30 (the successor device)

Problems/Questions:

Price:

Approximate price (in € or US$) with year and country of purchase
